Introduction

The Summer Institute 2003 - 16th European Advanced Studies Institute in Regional Science is organised by the Europea RSA, with the local responsability delegated to Prof. Rico Maggi - Institute for Economic Research (IRE) - University of Lugano and Prof. Angelo Rossi - SUPSI Lugano.
The summer school proposes to discuss three connected issues, i.e.: network industries and space, urban spatial structure, and competitive federalism. The aim is to provide opportunity to discuss the spatial and regional implications of regulatory trends in networks industries, the complex urban structure in a politico-economic context, and finally, the regional impacts of competitive federalism. Therefore, there will be scope to evaluate methods and policies simultaneously and across all three issues.
